Our goalkeeper became the foreign player with the most official appearances in the history of Atlético de Madrid. The Slovenian made his debut in 2014 and in Vallecas surpassed Diego Godín’s appearance record.

Jan Oblak expanded his legend as rojiblanco. In the game played this Sunday against Rayo Vallecano, at Estadio Vallecas, the Slovenian international surpassed Diego Godín with 390 games played for Atlético, becoming abroad with more duels in the club and the tenth athletic with more games.

The Škofja Loka man arrived at our club aged just 21, on July 16, 2014. The Slovenian goalkeeper made his official debut on September 16 of that same season, in a Champions League game, against Olympiacos , on Greek soil. The rest is history.

Since then, Jan Oblak has recorded interventions and performances that will forever remain in the retina and in the collective memory of all Rojiblanco fans. Over these nine years, the Slovenian has proven to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world and in the history of our club. In addition, his importance in the team has grown to the point that, since 2019, he has been part of the list of captains of the first team.

The duel against the Franjirrojos was particularly etched in the memory of our captain, his family and colleagues and, of course, all Atlético de Madrid fans. Today, at the age of 30, Jan Oblak has become the foreign footballer who most defended the rojiblancas in official matches: a total of 390 times.

At our club, he has already won up to four titles: a League (2020/2021), a Europa League (2018), a European Super Cup (2018) and a Spanish Super Cup (2014). To these titles must be added numerous individual mentions that earned him the distinction as one of the best goalkeepers in the world: he was part of the ideal team for the UEFA Champions League 2015/16 and 2016/17, the UEFA Europa League 2017/18, won five Zamora trophies (2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2020/21) and was named MVP of the season in the League won in the 2020/2021 campaign.

To all these awards and achievements are added these two new milestones: being the foreigner with the most games and the tenth player with the most games in the history of the club. Jan, who is also the goalkeeper who has defended the goal most often, now has just nine more legends from Rojiblanca ahead of him: Koke (578), Adelardo Rodríguez (553), Tomás Reñones (483), Enrique Collar (470), Carlos Aguilera (456), Isacio Calleja (425), Juan Carlos Arteche (421), Gabi (417) and Fernando Torres (404).

It’s already 390 games, Jan. Here’s to many more! Congratulations, captain!
