Villarreal took the lead in Brussels with a goal from Trigueros and Dreyer put the tables at Anderlecht

Submarino drew in the first leg of the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa Conference League against RSC Anderlecht (1-1). Manu Trigueros put the Groguets ahead in the first half, but Dreyer, from outside the area, managed to equalize for the Belgians, so the tie will be decided at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

Villarreal started the match imposing a high pace to which the Belgian team seemed to adapt perfectly. The main surprise in Groguet’s starting eleven was the presence of the young striker from Academia Grogueta, Jorge Pascual. The Almerian was called up in the last two LaLiga games, but saw the opportunity to make his debut in an official clash in the continental competition, accompanying Morales and Chukwueze in attack.

The Nigerian, displaying his skill and strength, was the one who put the local defenders in trouble the most. The groguet striker himself was the protagonist of the first big occasion of the match after a recovery by Morales in the opponent’s half and a genius from Baena in the last pass.

And who didn’t go for the goal, which came before the 30th minute. Chukwueze saw only Trigueros at the back post, who had time to bring the ball down and beat Verbruggen with as much quality as he calmly shot. With the favorable result, the players went to the locker room tunnel.

In the opening minutes of the second act, Álex Baena twice tested the Dutch goalkeeper of Anderlecht and Villarreal was still superior, but a shot from outside the area by Dreyer made it strange and slipped into the goal defended by Pepe Reina to put the tables on the scoreboard .

With the goal, the local team reactivated itself in the match and started to create more danger, although without clear opportunities. Submarino returned to control the confrontation in the last 15 minutes in which Nico Jackson was close to reaching two balls that left him in front of the goal, one of them when he was about to steal the ball from the goalkeeper, but it was insufficient.

Thus, access to the quarterfinals will pass through the return at La Cerámica next Thursday, March 16th. Villarreal’s next game will be this Sunday, at 6:30 pm, at the Estadio de la Cerámica, against Real Betis, on a day that promises to be a big groggy party on the occasion of our centenary.
