Less than a week ago we discovered the new Kia EV9 that we were able to see in person a month ago in Seoul, the South Korean capital. well good Kia presents us now almost without waiting for a younger brother, which appears in advance as a concept with the name of Kia EV5 Concept and is a true younger brother of the EV9 that will soon have a production version that we will see next year . currently in the Chinese market, although it is expected to be expanded to others soon.
An EV9 in a compact form factor
as we say This EV5 continues much of the square, robust and modern lines seen in the EV9 with the South Korean company’s “Opposites United” design language., although this time this more compact version opts for an even more futuristic front design, with barely visible front optics, although as we say this model is still a concept. Kia has not yet revealed the official dimensions of this model, something interesting because at least visually the model continues to have an air almost as imposing as the EV9, although the most surprising thing is that its nomenclature suggests that Kia will place it below the current Kia EV6, this one with a more stylized semi-crossover bet, so we can expect a smaller price and size for this model.
The interior is reminiscent of the EV9 concept. A very minimalist bet with swivel seats, doors opening upside down to accommodate a modern interior without a central B-pillar. This of course, seeing the result in the production of the EV9, will also end up discarded in the EV5 that will hit the streets and that will certainly opt for an interior design very similar to that of the final version of its older brother.
Many unknowns still on the table
Regarding its specifications, Kia has not yet given details, although Kia is expected to apply its already famous ones here. E-GMP base electrical architecture for new Kia and Hyundai 0 emission models. This will result in an 800-volt electrical architecture and multiple battery options, as well as two- and four-wheel drive configurations.
Given the large number of unknowns still on the table, Kia is expected to continue to provide new brushstrokes of information about this EV5 in the coming months, before a debut that will arrive next year with a production model for the Chinese market. However Kia already anticipates that information regarding this EV5 for other global markets will arrive “in due time”, so it is likely that we will also see this model arrive at some point in Europe.
