US company Cosori has voluntarily recalled nearly two million of its popular fryers sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The reason, “fire and burn hazards”, due to a “rare” possibility of some connectors overheating. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission of the United States (CPSC), the company received 205 complaints of “fire, burns, melting, overheating and smoke” in these appliances. These models were sold from June 2018 to December 2022 in physical stores in the United States, Canada and Mexico, as well as on the websites: Amazon.com, Adorama.com, Bedbathandbeyond.com, Cosori.com, eBay.com, Homegoods. com, Kohls.com, Lowes.com, Macys.com, QVC.com, Staples.com, Vesync.com, Walmart.com, Wayfair.com, Wellbots.com, and Woot.com.

Cosori Spain clarified that products sold in Europe are not affected by this issue. However, many Spanish users of these fryers have shown their concern, which is why the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) had to clarify that “the Cosori fryers on sale in Spain and Europe do not have safety problems: they do not have nothing to do with the models that were pre-emptively and voluntarily withdrawn in North America.”

OCU analysis of four Cosori models

Anyway, the OCU carried out an analysis of four models of Cosori fryers, including thermal and electrical safety tests, and the results show “irreproachable safety guarantees”. In electrical safety, all fryers of this brand receive five stars, while in thermal safety, the model Cosori CAF-L501 receives five stars and the other models four. “This means that the temperatures reached by the accessible surfaces of the device do not pose a problem for users”, confirms the OCU.

In any case, the OCU reminds you that, to avoid any incidents during use, it is important “to make sure you use it correctly and first read the instructions for use, especially the safety recommendations, and respect them”.

In turn, the manufacturer indicates that all Cosori products undergo strict quality control, aimed at guaranteeing consumer safety, and strictly comply with CE standards.
